Bambu Zen , o epicentro do festival com foco na responsabilidade ambiental

06/07/2022

For the second edition of the Pico Zen Festival, the promoter Inn Nature invited the Warehouse Collective and the Terrapalha workshop to design and build a temporary structure to host the main activities of the festival.

ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

The project's premises were clear from the start: creating a structure with the least possible environmental and local impact, minimizing the use of resources from outside Pico Island. The design response aimed to use materials, techniques, and local labor.

BAMBOO AS THE EPICENTER

Bamboo, an invasive species on the island, was an obvious choice for the structure, aligning with the use of fishing ropes and tying techniques shared by locals for tensioning and structural connections.

Ties Ties

No screws, nails, or plastic clamps were used, reducing waste. The structure was anchored to the ground, always working in tension and bracing, eliminating the need for foundations and minimizing the impact on the terrain. Only synthetic material was used for the cover, acquired with a commitment to future reuse by the São Roque do Pico Municipal Council.

The project was built over a week, in partnership with municipal workers and local residents, in an open yard allowing participation from locals and festival participants.
